Glider basics

Sugar Gliders are exotic animal that require care like any other animal. Gliders require a

"staple" diet, an exotic vet, and specific supplies.  You cannot buy supplies at  local pet sores, with exception of BML vitamins.

Wheels should be ordered online, not a pet store.  Pet store wheels are not safe. See information for new owners for safe wheel links.

The cute "pouches" at the pet store have loose threads, which can tangle limbs and possibly need amputation.

NAIL TRIMS

Glider nails need to be trimmed about every 2 weeks.  Bird rope is not safe even with trimmed nails. If you use sandpaper in your wheels nails still need to be checked and probably still trimmed.  The nails have a quick and you don't want to cut too far back.  The easiest way is to put the glider in a pouch and pull out one foot at a time. The best time to do this is during the day while they are still sleepy. I prefer to use toenail clippers, but some use baby clippers or cuticle clippers.

CLEANING

Gliders are extremely messy.  Glider kitchens will cup down on some mess.  Spot clean the cage daily, drop pans as need, and never wash the everything at once.  Alternate  washing fleece toys, and the cage. Dawn, vinegar, steam cleaning, odoban, and Clorox health care peroxide (no bleach) are fine to clean with.
